Mitie has secured a new £280 million contract with for a fully integrated Facilities Management (IFM) service.

This new contract brings together four previous contracts and builds on Mitie’s 10-year relationship with Network Rail It is initially for four years with an option to extend for up to three more years. The contract was awarded through a competitive tender process and has been let from the Crown Commercial Services Management and Workplace Services Framework (RM6232).

Under the contract, Mitie will provide services for all of Network Rail’s estate and will support 800 sites across the country, from railway stations and corporate offices to critical national infrastructure sites and rail operating centres. Mitie has a 2,250-strong team that will provide a full suite of IFM services, extending from planned and reactive maintenance, mechanical and electrical services, and cleaning and hygiene services, through to intelligent security, front of house, waste management and landscaping. Additional project work is also covered by the contract.

By merging its four previous contracts, Mitie is able to more easily share innovation and best practice across the contract. Typical of this is the roll-out of Mitie’s new technology to deliver demand-led cleaning and security, which enables services to be focused on those areas that have the highest usage. The company will also be launching a specially designed Security Assurance Programme that will identify and deploy security regimes whenever any risks are identified.

To deliver contract-specific learning and career development opportunities for its employees, Mitie will also develop a dedicated Training Centre of Excellence that will provide bespoke training in customer service, advocacy for the railways, and security awareness. Working in partnership with the British Institute of Cleaning Science (BICSc) Mitie will provide mentoring for the company’s Cleaning Team Leaders, which will enable them to share this knowledge and deliver their own BICSc training sessions that will focus on high-quality and efficient cleaning practices.

Jason Towse, Managing Director of Mitie Business Services, said: “We’re proud to be continuing our 10-year partnership with Network Rail, supporting the smooth operation of Britain’s railways. By bringing together four contracts under one umbrella, we’ll be able to deliver more innovative, efficient and technology and intelligence-led solutions, with better career development opportunities for our people.”
