Over the summer months, Wensleydale Railway is holding a fantastic selection of great value family-friendly heritage-based activities covering Victorian Leisure time right through to the Keep Calm and Carry On poster campaign and the 1940s era.
Wednesdays through August will see activities take place at different stations starting on Wednesday the 2nd of August with ‘Victorian Vacation’ which takes place at Scruton Station and will see families enjoy travel by train from Leeming Bar with a day of free games, crafts and other activities which would have been enjoyed more than 100 years ago. The details of further Wednesday events will be released via the railway’s social media pages.
Wednesday and Saturdays will also see an opportunity to enjoy Wensleydale Railway’s award-winning station museums at Leeming Bar and Scruton with five shuttle trains supporting travel between the two stations. The museums offer free guided tours and feature costumed living history interpreters, bringing history to life and offering plenty of detail about the rural railway life of the early 1900s.
Free Explorer Passports are also available at the heritage railway’s stations, and feature details about the time period they are from and offer a chance to collect stamps by visiting each one. Stations also have children’s activity books which are full of fun activities.
The railway has also introduced several savings for visitors, which are available throughout the year, including:
- Children aged between 3 and 15 years of age travel for just £1 on normal train services
- 25% off scheduled train services for both local residents
- 50% off travel for Wensleydale Railway Association Trust members – the railways-registered charity.
