Saturday the 8th of July saw the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Steam Railway officially open its new station shop at Broadway.
The opening was attended by the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Steam Railway PLC President, Pete Waterman and fellow directors, and took place during the second day of the railway’s popular annual Summer Heritage Diesel Gala.
The new shop can be found on platform 1 of the picturesque Broadway station and features an array of wonderful items to buy, including souvenirs, gifts, books, GWR merchandise and products for model railways.
Richard Johnson, GWSR PLC Chairman, commented:
“It’s delightful to have been asked to open our second retail shop at Broadway. Our retail operations make a considerable financial contribution to helping us run our railway.”
Julia Harwood, Shop Manager, commented:
“I am really delighted that we have our second shop at Broadway. Lots of our passengers have asked for us to have a shop here for a while, and it is already proving popular.”
The stunning volunteer-run heritage railway has 14 miles of track and was originally part of the former Great Western Railway main line from Birmingham to Cheltenham. The railway runs both steam and heritage diesel trains between Cheltenham Racecourse and Broadway through the delightful countryside and villages of the Cotswolds.

This is very sad. It’s just a B&Q style wooden shed, right next to our carefully crafted heritage station.
