TransPennine Express installs 47 ticket vending machines of a new type

TransPennine Express (TPE) has installed 47 new ticket vending machines (TVM) across its network that show customers what departures they can catch for each type of ticket.

The new machines are of a new type and represent a £700,000 investment. They are being installed at stations managed by . They were supplied by Worldline, which handles payment services, in partnership with Evoke, which is one of the world’s leading providers of interactive kiosks.

The new machines are designed to remove confusion for customers who may be unsure which ticket to buy as they now show the permitted departures for each fare.

Installation of the machines is just the first step, as TransPennine has plans to deliver further improvements already, including multilingual support, quick purchase for the most popular tickets from each station, buying Advance Purchase Tickets, and downloading tickets into a customer’s mobile device wallet.

Darren Higgins, Commercial Director for TPE, said: “The 47 new TVMs will provide our customers with an improved user experience, making it easier than ever to purchase or collect their tickets.

“Some of our stations, including Thirsk, Northallerton, and Selby, have seen their TVM count double and now have a machine available at every platform.”

“Our customers are at the heart of everything we do and the introduction of the new TVMs, together with plans to deliver improvements, clearly demonstrate our desire to make our network more customer friendly, as well as easier to use and access.”

“The upper display has the ability to display clear and concise customer messaging on topics such as travel advice, penalty fare notices and live departure information.

“The TVMs can also be set to a ‘lower screen’ option to make the ticket purchasing and collection process much more accessible for wheelchair users.”

  1. These new ticket machines are a very good idea, having read what has been posted here. Maybe, they should be installed at all mainline stations not just ones run by TPE.

    Now just need to get TPE to stop cancelling their trains
