For the first time since 2019, visitors to Snowdon will be able to catch trains all the way to the summit from Saturday, 24th June.
Trains on the Snowdon Mountain Railway originally stopped running all the way to the summit because of Covid-19, but then the upper reaches of the line remained closed so that the track could be upgraded.
During the track upgrade over 1,000 metres of track were relaid, although when the railway reopened for the 2023 season on April 1st, the service only travelled to Clogwyn station, just three-quarters of the to the summit.
The railway is so steep that it uses a rack and pinion form of traction and is the only such line in the UK. The line is 4.7 miles long and runs from Llanberis to the summit of Snowdon.
Coinciding with the reopening of the line to the summit, Hafod Eryri, the popular visitor centre and restaurant at the summit, will also re-open
To ensure that the railway operates a full service with all its facilities serving the public, it has recently completed a widespread recruitment drive.
Services on the Snowdon Mountain Railway run from April until the end of October. Tickets can be purchased online at www.snowdonrailway.co.uk
