Network Rail has placed a planning application in order to create improved access for passengers who use the Dumfries station.
Dumfries and Galloway Council have now received the application for listed building consent by Network Rail and, if approved, will see a brand new footbridge built with lifts which will create step-free access to both platforms.
As a category B listed building, Network Rail’s designs for Dumfries station take into consideration the station’s historic character and its look and feel.
Karen McChesney, Network Rail’s town planning lead for the accessibility work at Dumfries station, said:
“The level of interest in the new bridge at Dumfries station was great. We are grateful that the people of Dumfries took the time to come and see what we are proposing.”
“After working with our architects and local stakeholders, we’re confident that we’ve made good choices on the proposed design that is being put forward for listed building consent.”
“All being well, we are hopeful of progressing the work in Dumfries in autumn this year.”
Anyone who wishes to see the proposed design can do so via Scotland‘s Railway website.
