To celebrate the North Yorkshire Moors Railway’s (NYMR) 50th anniversary, the railway has compiled a ‘Big 50′ bucket list of things to do, see, and explore during a trip on the railway this summer.

The bucket list is designed to inspire visitors to get involved and learn about the history of the railway and to explore the communities of North Yorkshire through which it runs.

Anyone who visits the railway can become a ‘Top Fan’ and earn their own badge by completing ten of the 50 bucket list items, or become a ‘Super Fan’ with its own special badge by completing all 50 items.

Among the 50 items on the bucket list are activities, such as:

• visit Goathland station which doubled as “Hogsmeade”, the train stop for Hogwarts in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone;
• enjoy traditional fish and chips in Whitby;
• chat to one of the railway’s volunteers, some of whom have been with the railway for all its 50 years, and have lots of great stories to tell.

The ‘Big 50′ booklet can be collected from any North Yorkshire Moors Railway booking office,.

Once ten or 50 items on the list have been completed, the booklet can be taken to a station shop to claim a Top Fan or Super Fan badge. The railway is also running an online competition for a one-off super-fan prize as well as runner-up prizes.

The bucket list of 50 items, which marks the 50th anniversary of the railway, is designed to encourage visitors to make the most of their journey on Britain’s most popular heritage railway, and which welcomes over 300,000 visitors every year.

To enable visitors to get the best from the whole of the railway, the New 2023 Ticket costing £45, provides a full twelve months free travel from the date of your first visit, at no extra cost.

Families also benefit because with Kids Go Free, any child aged 15 and under travels free at all times.
