The direction sign for Tenterden Town station on the Kent and East Sussex Railway was reinstated last week nearly 70 years after it was removed when the original railway closed to passengers.
The historic moment was witnessed by K&ESR Chair Simon Marsh (left in the photo), K&ESR General Manager Dr Robin Coombes (centre) and newly appointed Mayor of Tenterden Cllr Sue Ferguson (right) on Wednesday 31st May 2023.
The original plaque, which was installed on the wall of The Vine Inn has unfortunately been lost, but a replica was made by local firm, Miles Signs.
The station sign first appeared sometime in 1903 when the station first opened, but postcards show it gone by 1954.
The railway celebrates its 50th anniversary o the opening of the preserved line, so it is timely reinstallation for the sign.
