Coinciding with this week, Monday, 26th June to Sunday, 2nd July, being Rail Safety Week, has announced that the company has been shortlisted for an award for its safety achievements at this year’s National Rail to be held in September.

Hull Trains has been recognised for the significant steps it has taken to improve the safety of both staff and customers on board.

As a result, the company has been nominated for the Safety Achievement of The Year award at the event known as the ‘Railway Oscars.’

They take place on 14th September and recognise outstanding achievements on Britain’s railways over the past year.

In particular, they aim to reward initiatives that demonstrate innovation and measurable improvements in performance that can be rolled out across the railway.

During the last year, Hull Trains has implemented a number of initiatives designed to improve safety.

In its recent safety report, the Office of Rail and Road (ORR) gave the company a level 5 ‘excellent’ evaluation to the way that the company’s safety team works with frontline teams and health and safety representatives work in partnership to achieve collaborative solutions to safety issues. ‘Dedicated to Safety is the cornerstone of Hull Trains’ culture and values as it strives to achieve zero harm in all its operations and services.

At last year’s National Rail Awards, Hull Trains’ Service Delivery Director Louise Mendham was recognised for her ‘selfless and outstanding’ contribution to the UK rail industry.

Martijn Gilbert, Managing Director of Hull Trains, explained “The safety of both our customers and colleagues on board our trains are paramount to the whole team here at Hull Trains. It is an ongoing project to maintain and improve on our current levels and is something we all remain committed to.

“To be shortlisted for this award is a huge achievement and just shows that the work we are doing is really having an impact. We are delighted that our efforts have been recognised nationally which we are pleased to share with customers and the wider industry as part of Rail Safety Week.”
