Next month the Wensleydale Railway is to once again run a Jazz Train to raise funds for the Macmillan Cancer Support charity.
The Jazz Train will run on Saturday 17th June, and the fun will begin at 7 pm at Leeming Bar station where there will be music and dancing on the platform. At 7.30 pm the train will depart for a round trip to Leyburn, with a band playing on the train and after arrival at Leyburn station. The band will include some original members of the now-disbanded Swale Valley Stompers group as well as some new players.
During the journey, there will be an auction of promises and raffle on board the train, with some fantastic prizes that include holiday vouchers, wine, and chocolates, a holiday cottage stay, and an introduction to clay pigeon shooting.
Throughout the journey, a bar on the train will be available to serve a selection of alcoholic and soft drinks, and guests can also bring their own picnics and drinks to enjoy on the trip
As this is an evening event close to Midsummer’s Day, it will show Wensleydale at its best in the late daylight, and it promises to be an enjoyable evening for a great cause.
Tickets for the event cost £20 and can be bought from the railway at https://wensleydale-railway.co.uk or from band members.
Further information and booking details can be obtained by emailing [email protected], telephone 01677 425 805, or from band members at 01609 883408 / 01609 772498
Peter Edmonds, a band spokesperson, said “We raised over £3,300 for Macmillan Nurses last year and hope to raise even more this year for such a worthy cause!”
Other events on the railway in the coming months include a Taplin & Mageean Gin Train and Fish and Chips Dining Trains.
The Wensleydale Railway is a heritage railway that serves the local community and offers tourists, families, and transport enthusiasts a great value day out in the Yorkshire Dales with lots to see and do along the way. It currently operates heritage diesel train services between Scruton in the Vale of Mowbray and Leyburn on the outskirts of the spectacular Yorkshire Dales National Park. Award-winning, restored historic stations allow visitors to learn more about railway life in the 1900s, and enjoy free guided tours with costumed living history interpreters.

I hope Paul Salveson, who did so much with enthusiastic support of the railway community to promote the Penistone Line with the Partnership will be joining me in welcoming this, Despite political hesitancy the Music Trains did so much to continue to grow patronage and ensure the backing of the PTAs. Whilst not a first for themed trains this is actually recreating with a Pacer the Penistone Line Music Trains from the 1990s through to “Pacergeddon”. Great to see, best wishes for success to the Wensleydale venture.
