Wensleydale Railway to run four more Fish and Chips dining trains

Wensleydale Railway in has announced further dates for its new Saturday lunchtime Fish and Chips dining trains to . Due to the success of its inaugural service on 22 April, the railway will run its ‘Wensleydale Fryer’ trains on 20 May, 22 July, 9 September and 21 October.

The railway is inviting passengers to experience a scenic journey through the Dales whilst enjoying locally-supplied Fish and Chips, mushy peas, bread and butter and unlimited tea or coffee served at their table.

The experience begins at station when passengers will board the heritage diesel-hauled train. They will be seated in an open coach at their own table, set for one to four people, and for larger parties, two tables each side of the centre aisle. The railway’s volunteer staff will serve food and drink, and a bar service will be available.

On arrival at Leyburn, passengers will have time for a short comfort break and to stretch their legs before boarding the train for the return journey to Leeming Bar. They can also take a free guided tour of Leeming Bar’s lovingly-restored 1920s station building, which offers a fascinating window in to railway history and what life was like in the early part of the twentieth century.

The train will depart Leeming Bar at 13:30 and the journey lasts around two hours. In addition to cod and chips, there will also be the option of sausage and chips and gluten-free fish and chips.

The railway’s vintage coaches do not currently have access for wheelchair users. Passengers with limited mobility are asked to let staff know at the time of booking, so they can allocate a table close to the access door.

The Wensleydale Railway is a heritage railway serving the local community, offering tourists, families and transport enthusiasts days out in the Yorkshire Dales. The Railway currently operates heritage diesel train services between Scruton in the Vale of Mowbray and Leyburn on the outskirts of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. It has award-winning, restored historic stations where visitors can learn more about 1900s railway life whilst enjoying free guided tours with costumed living history interpreters.

It also offers the chance to drive its heritage diesel locomotives on its Driver Experience days.
