The Swanage Railway have released an update on its Wareham service, after a fault was discovered with the resident DMU.
Thankfully, the fitters have been worked hard to fix the fault, and have now tested the unit and have confirmed it is ok to carry passengers once again.
The Wareham link will reopen tomorrow, Wednesday 24th May 2023.
This means that the Swanage Railway will return to the Green timetable, with a steam locomotive in service between Swanage and Norden, and the DMU running between Swanage and Wareham.
It is planned that services will be operated by the railway’s heritage Class 117 diesel multiple unit, with the option of attaching an additional heritage Class 121 diesel multiple unit attached if extra capacity was required.
Together, they would have provided a capacity of 292 seats. To enable the units to operate onto the main line and through to Wareham, both units were restored and upgraded by specialist contractors who installed the necessary technical, signalling, and safety equipment that is mandatory for all mainline trains which operate on the national rail network.

Maybe South Western Railway should help out with using their Class 158 or Class 159 DMU for the Swanage Railway.
Did the Swanage Railway not put a bid in to get some pacer trains when they were being scrapped or sold on. It could be that management there didn’t like the Nodding Donkeys.
