Seatfrog has revealed research which shows that customers travelling in the North of England incur costs of £93 million because of re-booking new seats after missing pre-booked journeys.
Northern partnered up with Seatfrog last month in a bid to offer customers the ability to Advance Purchase tickets which offer greater ‘on the day’ flexibility should they need to alter their travel plans.
Seatfrog offers customers a fantastic way to alter their ticket up to as little as ten minutes prior to departure of their original service, enabling them to change to a different service, leaving on the same day from just £2.50.
Anyone who needs to change their ticket should visit here.
Seatfrog hopes to see the £93m cost for customers eradicated by providing a broader service with other rail operators following its successful work with Northern.
Iain Griffin, CEO and co-founder of Seatfrog said:
“It’s easy to buy a cheap, advance ticket, but it’s complicated, costly and stressful to change tickets if our plans change. We want rail to enable life, rather than getting in the way of it. So from today, we’re letting passengers swap trains and change tickets in just a couple of taps on the Seatfrog app.”
Mark Powles, commercial and customer director at Northern, said:
“Our customers have been able to use the Seatfrog app for just over a month–and for those whose plans have changed, it’s proving popular.”
“Advance Purchase tickets offer the best prices for those who can book before the day of travel, but circumstances can and do change and it’s great that we’re now able to offer customers the chance to switch trains via Seatfrog rather than have to purchase a new ticket.”
The app can be downloaded via the App Store and Google Play.

A very good idea, but it should be with every train company not just with Northern.
