The Wensleydale Railway is inviting visitors to enjoy a unique and unforgettable journey through the Yorkshire Dales on its Taplin & Mageean Gin Train Experience.
During the journey, visitors will be served a selection of exquisite Gin & Tonics, crafted from locally sourced botanicals and award-winning spirits, while relaxing in a private carriage and admiring stunning views as the railway runs through some of the most beautiful countryside in England.
This event started in 2018, and this year there are six dates between June and October with the Saturday afternoon service beginning on 3rd June. Further special trains will run on 8th July, 2nd September, 16th September, 7th October and 28th October.
The Taplin & Mageean gin distillery is housed in part of the former Leyburn railway station building on the Wensleydale Railway. The distillery sold its first batches of gin on board a heritage railway train at the station platform in December 2018. The railway’s Taplin & Mageean Gin Train Experience recreates this moment with a gin tasting onboard a train travelling through lower Wensleydale from Leyburn to Leeming Bar, departing from Leyburn at 12:30.
During a 45-minute journey to Leeming Bar guests can sit back and enjoy a gin. At Leeming Bar, there will be time to stretch your legs and enjoy a free tour of the restored 1920s station building before boarding the train for the return journey to Leyburn. But the day’s experience doesn’t end there, as the next stop is a tour of the distillery and a presentation about Taplin & Mageean gins.

Unless people are walking to Leeming Bar station there would be no problem with the Police. Anyone driving there to have a few G &T’s on the train would be over the top, would be fined and points on their licence.
