Train services on Chiltern Railways are likely to be extremely busy this weekend, as well-wishers travel to London to celebrate the Coronation of His Majesty King Charles III.
To help those travelling into London, Chiltern will implement an enhanced timetable on Saturday 6 May. Extra carriages will be added to trains and there will also be extra services running to make travel easier for those visiting the capital to attend the Royal celebrations.
An added complication is the closure of the Nuneham Viaduct between Didcot and Oxford, which means that Chiltern Railways is the sole operator of trains between Oxford and the capital. This means that, despite the enhanced timetable, customers between London Marylebone and Oxford will find that services are still likely to be extremely busy throughout the day.
To contribute to the weekend’s celebrations, Chiltern Railways has ensured that its stations reflect the celebratory tone of the weekend. Travellers will find decorative bunting and handouts across its network, whilst some station gardens have been planted with red, white and blue flowers ready for the Coronation Weekend.
In Solihull in the West Midlands, Chiltern Railways is working with the Heart of England Community Rail partnership on a school workshop where pupils have been set the task of designing a ‘Royal Train’, and the finished artwork will go on display at the station.
At London Marylebone station on Saturday, Chiltern Railways is looking forward to welcoming customers to the capital for this once-in-a-generation event with performances by a live band.
As services on Saturday 6 May are likely to be extremely busy, customers should ensure that they check all of their full journey before they travel, and where possible purchase their tickets in advance on the Chiltern Railways website at ww.chilternrailways.co.uk or on the Chiltern Railways app.
