The phased introduction of the brand new high-tech trains on the network has now seen the reinstatement of the full timetable for both the and lines and as the new trains move into operation on the Ormskirk line.

As driver training has been taking place for the new trains, a small number of services during the day needed to be cancelled over the past few weeks. Driver training is still underway for other parts of the network however, the full timetable can be restored for Southport and Ormskirk lines.

Passengers are also being advised of a slightly amended timetable from the 13th to the 15th of April as special services are operated in order to support the Grand National. It is likely that some trains may run earlier than usual and due to this all passengers travelling on the above dates should check train times via the Merseyrail website, social media or app.

Monday the 10th of April will see passengers who travel on the Ormskirk Line see the brand new Class 777 trains out in action for passenger service.

Following the introduction of the Class 777s on the Kirkby line this January, passengers have reported positively on the new trains and are particularly impressed with the design, layout, air conditioning, Wi-Fi and electric charging points.

  1. Maybe Merseyrail should order more Class 777s to that some would be used on the City Line and the rest to operate on the Northern and Wirral Lines and to run on battery power on shorter journeys.
