ScotRail has issued important advice for travellers as Scotland is set to experience many visitors who will be making up for their lost time when they were restricted from travelling to events because of the Covid-19 Pandemic.
During the next few months, a number of major events will be taking place, and many of the visitors to those events will travel by ScotRail‘s train services. To make travel easier during what promises to be a busy time on the trains, ScotRail has issued the following advice:
- Buy travel tickets before boarding the train, as a valid ticket is required for travel and there will be checks on tickets in place at many stations;
- Check train times before you travel, and remember that if customers need to catch a connecting service they should leave time enough to change trains and catch the connecting service;
- ScotRail will have extra staff around stations to help things go smoothly, but for them to be able to help them help customers, they should listen out for their instructions;
- Download the ScotRail app, which can be used to buy tickets, check train times, and see live information about train services;
- Leave plenty of time to catch the train, as services will be busy and customers who arrive at the last-minute might not be able to board their first choice of train.
The first major events coming up are next Saturday, 29th April, with the Pavilion Festival at Low Green in Ayr and Stereofunk 2023 at Chatelherault Country Park in Hamilton.
Train services to both events are expected to be busy, so customers should plan ahead and leave extra time for travelling. ScotRail also advises visitors to buy their return tickets in advance via the mTicket system on the ScotRail app. The mTickets system allows tickets to be bought from home or on the way to the station and it will instantly become available on customer’s mobile devices.
As with all large events, ScotRail will have extra staff available to assist customers and has also issued a reminder that the carrying and consumption of alcohol is prohibited on ScotRail trains and in our stations.
Pavilion Festival, Low Green (Ayr)
Extra trains will run between Glasgow Central and Ayr throughout the day, and trains will also have extra capacity with additional carriages.
Stereofunk 2023, Chatelherault Country Park,
Extra carriages will be added to services between Dalmuir and Motherwell / Cumbernauld / Larkhall.

The above advice continues ScotRail’s policy of letting customers know is advance of special arrangements, such as for last Saturday’s Scottish FA Cup semi-finals at Hampden Park, this month’s Melrose Sevens rugby tournament, and last month’s Scotland v Spain football match at Hampden Park.
