Greater Anglia railway stations get energy-efficient lighting

Greater Anglia has seen six of its stations undergo installation of the environmentally friendly LED lighting will help reduce the train operator’s carbon footprint. The new lighting is more energy efficient and will create a brighter and overall more pleasing appearance following installation on platforms, concourses at Trimley, and stations and in station car parks at , Attleborough and .

has been replacing lighting with LED lighting across 110 of its stations since 2018.

Simone Bailey, Greater Anglia Asset Management Director, said: “We do all we can to reduce our impact on the environment and this is the latest scheme to tackle our carbon footprint.

“We aim to install LED lighting at all of the stations we manage. This will help save energy, create a more pleasant atmosphere for our customers and improve safety and security.”

Focused on reducing its impact on the environment, Greater Anglia has been working hard to cut its carbon emissions by a huge 25,000 tonnes over the past 48 months involving an array of energy and carbon-reducing measures.

Further green initiatives made by Greater Anglia include:

  • The introduction of new more energy-efficient trains
  • Reducing waste
  • Increasing recycling
  • Working with partners and communities on projects which improve sustainability and biodiversity at stations
  • Providing free water refill points at stations
  • The installation of electric car charging points
  • The creation of more cycle parking spaces.

Greater Anglia has also put in place wireless energy management systems at some railway stations in order to ensure both heating and lighting are utilised in an efficient manner with steps also made to reduce water usage.
