Amberley Museum in West Sussex plans to celebrate Mother’s Day on Sunday, 19th March this year with free admission for all mothers and a fun-packed day out with special activities.

Throughout the museum there will be various volunteer-led activities where mothers can get involved, including operating a manual switchboard, driving one of the museum’s smaller diesel locomotives, and making something to take home in the pottery, print shop, or woodturners.

The museum has the only traditional working print shop in the South of England where visitors can try their hand at printing, and welcomes mothers and children to print a keepsake.

For something different, the West Sussex Woodturners will also be offering mothers the chance to try wood turning and creating their own wooden ornament to take home.

In the pottery, the museum’s resident potter will be on hand to help mothers and children try their hand at pottery while they make a heart or flower. Please note there is an additional charge of £2 per person for this activity.

There will also be a craft market where talented local craftspeople will be demonstrating and selling their products, and at the Limeburners Café mothers can be treated to a light lunch or a Mother’s Day cream tea and prosecco for two for £16.50.

Admission to the museum includes free travel around the site on the narrow-gauge trains and classic buses.

Although most activities are included in the admission price, there may be a small charge for some special activities, and donations are always welcome.

The museum is situated in the heart of the South Downs National Park. It has over 20 exhibition areas with attractions such as vintage vehicles, communications, electrical goods, crafts, nature trails and rides on a narrow-gauge railway and historic buses.
