Work has now begun on the building of the new Station as part of the £116m Rail Link project in .

Leven station marks just one of two new stations set to be built on the route alongside in a project which will return connectivity to the communities of Levenmouth via train for the first time in more than 50 years.

The new station will feature 205-metre island platforms alongside a pebble-style pavilion area as the new station’s entrance. The location is conveniently located next to Leven Leisure centre which provides easy access to bus services and current travel routes. The station will also include 133 car parking spaces including provision for EV charging, ‘blue badge’ accessible parking and bike storage.

Work has seen the construction of the new station’s platforms which will be completed using over 98 precast units and approximately 200 cubic metres of concrete.

The new station is expected to take around 14 months to complete and will open as part of the overall Levenmouth Rail Link during the spring of 2024.

Alex Hynes, managing director of Scotland’s Railway said: “I am delighted to be here to see work begin to construct the new Leven station.

“Leven and Cameron Bridge stations will be the gateway to the rail network for local people and it is great to see work getting moving on what will be the public gateways of the project.

“This new line will also serve other areas of Fife and allow the community better connectivity which means increased access to employment, and education and make it easier for people to visit this beautiful part of the Fife coast. The benefits this brings are countless.

“In the coming months, the community will see a lot of work happening and quickly as the project gathers momentum and starts to build towards the opening of the line in spring 2024.”

October 2022 saw the planning application submitted for the new Leven station alongside a mix of permitted development rights and ‘prior approval’ which will allow the project to move forward for work within the rail corridor. Fife Council are still considering the wider elements of the station’s design.

Preparatory work which is now completed allowed the project to get underway in March 2022 which will deliver the Levenmouth Rail Link and will include:

  • 19 single-track kilometres of new / reinstated railway. (Fully double-tracked railway)
  • Two new modern accessible stations
  • Electrification of the line
  • The project will see collaborations with partners to optimise interchange options for connecting stations.
