Northern is set to make a £10 million investment in upgrading traincrew facilities of which £8 million has already been spent with upgrades made at Leeds, Manchester Victoria, Manchester Oxford Road, Blackpool, Workington, Barrow and Buxton.
The latest upgrades are set to benefit Northern staff members at Liverpool, Huddersfield, Hull, Carlisle, Wigan, Harrogate, Doncaster and Middlesbrough and will include brand new kitchen facilities, back-office areas alongside new seating and sofas.
Further to the investment another project is set to benefit train presentation teams with similar upgrades which will support 1,350 employees in having improved places to relax whilst taking breaks.
The rail operator has recently revealed that it will be recruiting 280 drivers and conductors this year so the upgraded facilities will certainly be a welcome addition for the Northern team.
Mark Powles, customer and commercial director, said: “We’re not only investing in staff facilities, but we’re also investing in our people. We want Northern to be a welcoming and friendly place to work.
“We’re making sure downtime from the hustle and bustle of the working day is enjoyable as well as making sure staff are well rested for their safety critical roles.”
