Plans for a new railway station at Rugby, to be called, Rugby Parkway, are being put out for public consultation by Warwickshire County Council from next Monday, 23rd January.
It is planned that the station will be located southeast of Rugby on land next to the A428 Crick Road on the Northampton loop of the West Coast Mainline between Rugby and Long Buckby stations. It will be served by two trains per hour in each direction travelling between Birmingham New Street and London Euston.
Initial plans for the station show that it will have two fully accessible platforms with lift and stair access, car parking with electric vehicle charging and space for up 325 vehicles, blue badge holders and parent and child spaces, secure cycle parking, ticket machines, taxi drop off/pick up, a ‘kiss and ride’ drop-off point, and a bus stop.
Outline plans for the station will be available for public comments until Monday, 20th February 20, after which they will be submitted to apply for outline planning permission. To publicise the plans, two community drop-in events are to be held:
- at The Barn at Houlton on Friday, 3rd February from 2pm to 7pm;
- outside Wilko in Rugby Central shopping centre, on Saturday, 4th February from 9am to 2pm.
People can also send their comments to the council by email to [email protected] or by post by writing to Rugby Parkway Engagement, Customer Service Centre, Shire Hall, Market Place, Warwick CV34 4RL.
Further information about the planned station and an online feedback form is available at www.warwickshire.gov.uk/ask.
Cllr Wallace Redford, Warwickshire County Council’s portfolio holder for transport and planning, said: “Rugby Parkway Station is an important part of Warwickshire’s future sustainable transport delivery.
“Rugby Parkway Station will provide a second access to the local and national rail network making it easier for those who wish to move away from travel by private car to connect with public transport.
“Together, Rugby Parkway and Rugby Station will support Rugby’s growing population and expansion, improving access to employment, education, leisure and travel opportunities for all its residents and businesses.”

Will this new station be within the zone where you can use a network railcard or where you can get a gold card for an annual season ticket? Long Buckley is the current border station for the former (I seem to recall the boundary for gold card is often a little beyond that).
I also wonder if this station might be one of a new pair of stations for the “lowest cost season ticket that can get you the gold card”, e.g. Long Buckley to Rugby parkway or similar.
Doubt it will beat Lymington Town to Lymington Harbour.
