A unique interactive archive that details the history of the InterCity 225 fleet on the East Coast Mainline has been launched today, Tuesday, 24th January, by the 225 Group

The archive holds complete details of every passenger service that was operated by an LNER InterCity 225 in 2021 and 2022. Information on nearly 10,000 services has been compiled by the group’s team of volunteers and verified by industry partners.

Anyone with an internet connection can access the archive as it is optimised for all types of device. A powerful search facility allows users to filter parameters such as date, locomotive, rake of carriages, or specific services. The platform has been designed so that additional workings and new features can be added over time.

Access to the archive is only available to members of the 225 Group at membership.225group.org.uk. Anyone wishing to join 225 Group can do so online for £17.50 through the Group’s website at 225group.org.uk/join.

The 225 Group was launched in January 2021 and is the only organisation dedicated to celebrating the InterCity 225 high-speed electric train’s history, and supporting its longevity once they cease mainline service and continues into preservation.

The Group has an online shop at shop.225group.org.uk that sells a wide range of products, including its biannual magazine LiveWire, the next issue of which is due to be published next month.

Jacob Baldwin, 225 Group Marketing & Communications Manager said: “Our archive gives us the opportunity to showcase the everyday life of the InterCity 225 and record it for posterity. We realised that the internet has further popularised sharing ‘gen’ on the train operating each service, and we wanted to extend that information back in time.

“This is our first release, but we’re very pleased with how it’s turned out! There’s something really satisfying about scrolling through the calendar to see what the trains were doing on a particular day.”

  1. Is LNER still going to keep their Intercity 225 rolling stocks that are currently operating on London Kings Cross- Leeds, York, Bradford Forester Square, Newcastle and Edinburgh Waverley services.

  2. It’s time that these venerable sets were replaced with more Azumas now. By all means keep the coaches in service. I dare say that Transpennine Express would be grateful of the coaches and DVT on airport services. The luggage capacity of the DVT would be ideal for airport services.
