Stadler has signed a contract to supply the Dutch public transport company HTM in The Hague with 56 TINA trams, together with an option for additional vehicles.
The TINA trams are intended for use in The Hague from 2026, and are the first time Stadler has supplied trams to the Netherlands, although the company is in the process of fulfilling orders for TINA trams to Darmstadt and Halle in Germany.
TINA stands for “Total Integrated Low-Floor Drive” in German, and describes the trams’ design which focusses on passenger comfort, and with a rotating bogie that provides a pleasantly smooth ride.
The entire vehicle is fully accessible with a low floor throughout, and has spacious multifunctional compartments that provide plenty of room for passengers in wheelchairs. They make optimum use of the interior dimensions, with a novel arrangement and design of seats and handrails, which thanks to a generous aisle width creates an open feeling of space inside the vehicle. The feeling of comfort is enhanced by a high interior and large panoramic windows.
With an energy-efficient drive, TINA trams contribute to improving the environmental footprint of local public transport. In the driver’s cab, a digital and intuitive Uni-Board makes life easier for drivers to allow them to concentrate fully on the road traffic, providing a high standard of safety for passengers and road users in The Hague.
The trams comprise three vehicles, each 36.5 metres long, with space for 237 passengers and a top speed of 70 km/h. They can also operate in multiple to provide double the capacity busy lines and at peak times.
Dr. Ansgar Brockmeyer, Executive Vice President Sales & Marketing and Deputy Group CEO, of Stadler, said: “We are proud to be able to supply trams to the Netherlands for the first time following the order from HTM. This is the fifth time we have successfully sold our innovative and particularly passenger-friendly latest generation tram within a short time since its market launch. Our TINA trams will enable passengers in the government city on the North Sea to experience a new dimension in comfort and sustainable transport.”
Jaap Bierman, CEO of HTM Stadler, said: “ HTM is very pleased with the purchase of the new, wider and modern trams of Stadler. With these trams HTM offers our passengers accessible and comfortable public transportation, and is well equipped for the future of modern mobility.”

Thank you for explaining what TINA means. I am always pleased to see articles about trams in these pages. If only we had more of them in the UK.
