TransPennine Express is advising passengers not to travel on their network today, Wednesday 21st December 2022.
A high level of unplanned cancellations are being made today due to a ‘significant rostering system issue’
Disruption is expected to last all day, with tickets being accepted with CrossCountry, LNER, Northern and Metrolink.
Kathryn O’Brien, Customer Service and Operations Director for TransPennine Express said: “Due to a significant rostering system issue, today we are experiencing a high level of unplanned cancellations and disruption across our network.
“We know this will have a significant impact on customers travelling with us today and sincerely apologise for any disruption caused.
“We are working hard internally and with our system provider to resolve the situation as soon as possible.
“We are doing all we can to keep customers on the move but while problems persist, we advise customers not to travel and to seek alternative means of transport.”

This company should loose its contract to provide a train service. It has cancelled 3 journeys I had paid for in advance to and from airport. And has cost me out off pockets expenses. With no compensation to me
Once upon a time we were told it was “the age of the train” – a good slogan, albeit from a dodgy messenger. “Let the train take the strain” was another.
Today the universal message, from all TOCs, is “Do not travel”.
The message is clear: the train can’t take the strain and it doesn’t even want to try. It’s a ‘can’t be bothered’ railway run, not by professional railway managers, but by union thugs on £60k a year who – as I’ve discovered from talking to the guys on platforms and in ticket offices – are intimidating lower-paid station staff to vote for strike action that ultimately will cost those same station staff their jobs. They know it, but they are afraid to speak out or vote against the ‘mafia’.
This can’t, and mustn’t, go on. The government should simply pull the plug and stop the subsidy. We already have a situation where some lines have been shut down since 16 Dec & won’t restart until 8 Jan. So how will we even notice if the rest of the trains stop running?
Yesterday TPE announced hot food in first class – read the room! We just want a reliable service to get to work!
