Last Saturday, 5th November, the Member of Parliament for Telford, Lucy Allan MP, formally opened a platform extension and commemorative bench on the Telford Steam Railway.
The bench was kindly donated in memory of the late Stephen Paul Morris by his family.
They were guests of honour at the opening, while others at the event included Nick McDowell of G N Groundworks Ltd, who generously tarmaced the platform extension free of charge, Bob Bailey, the Telford Steam Railway’s Vice President Railway, and some of the railway’s volunteers.
Once the formalities of the opening ceremony had been completed, a special train took the guests to the Furnaces tearoom where they were served food and drinks.
The Telford Steam Railway has expressed its thanks to Lucy Allan MP and the special guests, and fantastic volunteers for working hard to complete the building of the platform extension so that it is ready in time for the railway’s Polar Express trains that start on 25th November.
The Polar Expressâ„¢ train ride re-creates the iconic 2004 Polar Expressâ„¢ film where passengers can immerse themselves in the spirit of Christmas on a wonder-filled trip. Even better, most passengers wear their PJs for the journey.
