Sunday the 13th of November will see Remembrance Sunday events taking place across the country and South Western Railway is providing free travel on its services once again for serving military personnel and veterans who are attending events.
The rail operator will also support serving personnel making their journey to the Submariners Remembrance Service on Sunday the 6th of November and the main national commemoration at the Cenotaph in London on Sunday the 13th of November. Further to this, serving personnel can also travel on any South Western Railway service for free on the day prior to the service and return from London on Sunday.
Saturday the 5th of November will see limited South Western Railway services due to strike action, and those making a rail journey are advised to check their plans ahead of travelling by visiting: https://www.southwesternrailway.com/plan-my-journey
South Western Railway see its offer as a mark of respect for both current and previous generations of servicemen and women, especially as a good number of staff members are former armed service members. The rail operator is extremely focused on supporting Remembrance events.
The Department for Transport has funded this offer and is available to all who are travelling in uniform or can show appropriate identification.
Peter Williams, Commercial Director for South Western Railway, said: “South Western Railway is glad that we are once again able to offer free travel to service personnel and veterans to attend Remembrance Sunday events. By making it easier for people to attend these events, we can help to honour the sacrifice made by so many of our servicemen and women. This initiative is particularly important to us as many of our SWR colleagues come from a service background”.
