Govia Railway is encouraging passengers travelling this December to save money through Advance Tickets.

Road traffic in the lead up to Christmas can waste both time and fuel, making travelling by train a greener way to travel.

offers adult tickets as low as £5.50 on selected routes but prices are limited, so customers should book as soon as possible.

Advance Fares are available on more Routes, now that Thameslink is part of the offer.

Students traveling from Brighton to for the holiday can do so for £12.30 with a rail card, with a journey time of two hours.

More information and booking can be found on the Southern or Thameslink websites.

Dominic Morrow, Head of Marketing at Govia Thameslink Railway, said: “Christmas can be a very expensive time of year and we know this winter is going to be tough for many households. If you know when and where you’ll be travelling, Advance Fares are an easy way to cut costs on rail travel. After two years of Christmases plagued by Covid – it’s great that so many people will be able to see their loved ones this winter; and getting the train is the perfect way to unwind and get into the festive spirit.”

With a rail network stretching over 11 counties, those travelling with GTR this winter can also take advantage of festive activities at destinations easily reachable by train. Choose from Christmas markets in Hertfordshire, to the pantomime production of Mother Goose at the Theatre Royal in Brighton. Family fun can be had at Tulleys Christmas Experience, or book tickets for the Anglesey Abbey Winter Lights experience to dazzle children and adults alike.

  1. As with everything to do with rail, the continuing threat of more stikes colours everything, particularly Advanced Purchase ticket purchases. Why would you want to buy one with possibly more strikes likely in new year. Also, many operators cannot guarantee a 6 week headway period for booking, let alone the 12 weeks we normally have.
