TransPennine Express (TPE) train services are set to be severely disrupted on several days during the next two weeks due to industrial action by the Rail, Maritime and Transport union () and the Transport Salaried Staffs’ Association (TSSA) unions.

Next Saturday, 5th November, and Monday 7th and Thursday 9th November the RMT union will be staging strike action, whilst the Transport Salaried Staffs’ Association will be taking industrial short of a strike on 5th and 7th November.

The net effect of the combined industrial actions will be that TransPennine Express will only be able to run a very limited number of services. The only services running will be between Huddersfield and , and anyone intending to travel should only do so if their journey is absolutely necessary. In addition on the days following each strike there will be a reduced train service with trains starting later and finishing earlier than usual.

Anyone intending to travel to major events on strike days, such as the Scotland vs Fiji rugby match in and York Record Fair on 5th November, and the Rugby League World Cup fixtures in Hull and Huddersfield, should seek alternative modes of transport.

  • Malton
  • Middlesbrough
  • Northallerton
  • Scarborough

Adam Fairclough, Head of Customer Experience Delivery for TransPennine Express said: “We are saddened by the announcement that there will be further strike action by both RMT and TSSA at the start of next month, which will once again cause disruption to customers across the UK.

“This action will cause severe disruption to TransPennine Express services, and we will only be able to run an extremely limited service between Huddersfield and York on the strike dates. We are strongly advising those planning travel on this particular route to only do so if their journey is absolutely necessary.”
