Due to strike action by the RMT union, train services through Liverpool Lime Street station will be severely disrupted tomorrow, Saturday, 8th October.

Compared to around 13 train services that normally depart from the station, there will only be two trains per hour and they will finish much earlier than usual.

The last trains will leave between 3pm and 5pm and the final arrivals will be by 6.30pm. Throughout the country, only 20% of trains will be operating, and on only around 50% of the railway network.

There may be further disruption on the morning of Sunday, 9th October, with services starting later as employees return to duties.

Although Merseyrail is not taking part in the strike action, it will only be able to run a limited service, with just an hourly service between 7:30am and 6:30pm and only serving selected stations.

Network Rail will attempt to provide passengers with the best service possible, but trains will be significantly reduced or not running at all on some routes.

Alongside tomorrow’s strikes, industrial action will affect ScotRail services on Monday, 10th October.

Phil James, Network Rail’s North West route director, said:

“Despite our best efforts to compromise and find a breakthrough in talks, rail unions remain intent on continuing and coordinating their strike action. This means once again many North West routes won’t be served at all, causing misery for millions of rail passengers. With a fraction of the usual workforce available, including signallers who safely move trains around the network there will be a severely limited service during RMT strike action this Saturday.

“I can only apologise for the impact another RMT strike will have on people’s lives. It is frustrating to yet again ask our passengers to change their plans and only make absolutely necessary journeys.”
