Greater Anglia has recently invested £100,000 to refurbish the Victorian railway station at Hatfield Peverel rail station in Essex.

The work was undertaken to repair and restore two platform canopies – one on the north side of the booking hall, and one on the south side – to give the Victorian structure a new lease of life.

The existing roof coverings were removed which allowed damaged timbers to be removed and replaced. Both canopies then had their roofs replaced and were redecorated. At the same time old guttering and downpipes were also replaced.

The station has also recently benefitted from a number of other improvements. These include:

• upgraded toilets, benches, and waiting shelters;
• an upgraded car park with new markings, tarmac surfaces repaired, the right number of accessible spaces, and appropriate distancing between vehicles and accessible bays.
• cheaper short-term car parking.

Greater Anglia‘s Asset Management Director, Simone Bailey, said, “Hatfield Peverel station now looks much smarter and is better protected from the elements as a result of this refurbishment.”
