The is to run an Autumn Showcase on Saturday the 8th and Sunday the 9th of October and will see an array of locomotives showcased at the award-winning railway.

The weekend will see three steam locomotives and a diesel locomotive operating frequent passenger services between and Holt.

The special event will see Y14 No 564 which was originally built in 1912 to Victorian specifications and is the heritage railway’s oldest working locomotive and will be hauling a train made up of unique 4- and 6- wheeled carriages which also date from the 19th century. The event will also see the ‘Quad-Art’ set which dates from the 1920s in operation. The carriages have mostly been out of use this year due to undergoing periodic maintenance which has seen all four carriages re-varnished in order to bring them back to their original appearance.

Amongst the carriages will be the colourful 4-car suburban set alongside a set featuring liveries from the 1950s and 1960s and will include onboard catering from the Sir Nigel Gresley designed art-deco bar car.

Locomotives at the event will include:

2-8-0, 7F No 53809 which was built for the Somerset & Dorset Joint Railway in 1925

War Dept 2-10-0 No 90775 ‘The Royal Department’ which was built in Glasgow in 1943 and worked in Egypt and Greece before being preserved in the UK

diesel locomotive D5631 which was built in 1960

Further to frequent passenger service trains, the event will see non-stop express demonstration goods trains in order to create a nostalgic scene recalling days when goods traffic played a greater part in many railways than passenger services.

Visitors attending the event will also have the chance to enjoy a look behind the scenes at locomotive, carriage & wagon works and for a small donation can join a guided sheds tour.

Commercial Manager, Graham Hukins, commented: “The event will serve up a timetable full of variety giving visitors a chance to ride behind several different locomotives and explore our three stations which afford passengers with excellent photographic opportunities.”

The event will take place from 9.30am on Saturday the 8th and Sunday the 9th of October.
