Green Buffers have been developed to absorb and distribute impact energy during collisions providing a new approach to safety.

The new technology will create safer journeys for passengers and has the benefit of being a budget-friendly solution for rail operators as installation can be completed using small and easy measures for both new and existing trains.

Industry partners are always on the lookout for solutions in order to create the safest travel environment. Green Buffers bring a revolution to crash buffers which could save lives and substantially cut damage to vehicles.

During a collision, force is dispersed right through a train set and the coaches stay in place on the rails with less need for repair or being completely lost as a result. The innovative design has been patented and has also won awards for creating solutions to problems involving current collision management solutions.

Rail travel is already renowned as the best green transport available but more work is required in order to achieve the ‘NetZero goal’ ahead of 2050. Green Buffers also aid in this matter by capturing impact energy during a collision as well as afterwards as the mechanical components can easily be taken to pieces and recycled using the company’s special marking system.

Using a completely digital process, Green Buffers has created total traceability right across the supply chain from raw material to product configuration and installation both before and after a collision. Green Buffers are made using STRENX® which is high-strength steel and allows them to be both stronger and lighter, therefore, creating no further effect on the weight of an entire train set.

Green Buffers utilise smart technology to create safer train journeys which also provides a reduced cost of ownership for rail operators as trains can stay on track with only minimal time needed in a workshop following a collision. Condition monitoring is integrated and brings full control over individual status making for an efficient process management system.

Green Buffers are able to work as both independent subcontractors and partner with industry parties across the world and aim to challenge and redefine crash safety for the industry.

The innovative buffers have been created based on differing collision speeds and have met substantially harsher demands than today’s requirements for collisions which specify just one speed of 36km/h.
