Fans travelling by rail to the Rugby League Grand Final in Manchester urged to plan their travel carefully.

is advising Rugby League fans to plan their travel ahead for journeys home following the final on the 24th of September

The rail operator is warning of operational challenges such as high sickness levels and training backlogs which may lead to TransPennine Express having to make short-notice alterations to services which are very likely to affect those planning to travel by train after the match.

Other rail operators are also undergoing difficulties with fans from St. Helen’s and also being urged to use different transport methods as the trains which can operate from Piccadilly or are anticipated to be extremely busy.

The final is taking place on Saturday the 24th of September at Old Trafford, with a kick-off time of  6pm.

Kathryn O’Brien, Customer Service and Operations Director for TransPennine Express said: “We are doing all we can, as a company and an industry, to try to ensure people can enjoy the whole experience of the Grand Final but are asking customers to consider alternative travel and to carefully check their trains in advance.

“All services are likely to be busy that evening and customers are also advised to allow extra time for journeys in case of possible .”

Anyone heading by train both to and from the Grand Final on Saturday the 24th of September should check their trains ahead of leaving using the TransPennine Express website: tpexpress.co.uk or via National Rail Enquiries: nationalrail.co.uk
