Basildon station sees alterations to services as part of platform 2 is closed

c2c Is supported by both its structural engineers and Network Rail in the decision to close a section of platform 2 at railway station, and due to this 12-carriage trains travelling in the Southend direction will not be able to stop at Basildon for the foreseeable future.

The movement in the platform has risen considerably and is now observed to have reached a critical level.

Major works to resolve the underlying issue were in the planning stage by the rail operator for Basildon station but due to the level of movement increasing have been accelerated. The movement is thought to have increased as a result of the long period of hot and dry weather this summer, which has seen the underlying clay shrink over a majority of ‘s route.

Trains heading to will continue to operate from Platform 1 as normal and will not be affected by the issue.

c2c Realise that the essential work will mean that customers travelling towards will be inconvenienced especially over this long weekend, as large numbers of people make their way to London to pay their respects to the Queen.

The rail operator wishes to apologise to all of those impacted by the issue, however, safety on the railway is its main priority.

The complex repair work is expected to take a good period of time to rectify, with further investigation and a survey being undertaken before a programme of work can be shared.

  1. That would also prevent Class 720 trains formed as 10-Car not to stop at Basildon towards Southend Central and Shoeburyness because of structural issues with a small section of platform 2 at Basildon.
