On Sunday 2nd October, the Museum is holding is Autumn Gathering to celebrate its founding.

Held by enthusiasts in October 1978 the original gathering had people sharing their love of amazing old items.

Within the next year, the museum officially opened on site of the historic chalk quarries in the South Downs. The museum displayed its collections of industrial and everyday items from the past decades.

The Autumn Gathering has since taken place every first Sunday of October to celebrate the museum’s opening, its collections and the work of the volunteers.

Around the site are buildings, vehicles, engines, and equipment examples that could have been lost if not for the original founders.

Another thing which was preserved by the founders was knowledge of traditional craftmanship which is continued to be shared by volunteers.

Visitors to the gathering can see over a 150 vehicles and engines from the pre-1950’s as well as speak with vehicle owners and volunteers and ride on vintage buses and a steam train.

To attend the event, visitors must pre-book tickets online on the Amberley Museum website.
