Money from the “Your Community, Your Fund” scheme means that a number of projects covering art, children’s activities and station adopters can be completed.
The Department for Transport provided the money for the fund and West Midlands Railway and London Northwestern Railway allocated the money based on projects put forward.
The projects chosen will benefit different areas, including those of social need and will aim to also boost passenger experience.
One of the projects will include the refurbishment of disused station buildings across five locations to help better the railway and the community.
All projects are to be run by not-for-profit organisations and social enterprises who have previous work in upgrading station buildings and have schemes which help young people travel on the railway.
The fund, also known as the Customer and Communities Improvement Fund, aims to improve different areas across the railway through a range of applications for ideas.
The applications for this year, closed in May and will hopefully be carried out across the next year.
Fay Easton, WMR head of stakeholder and community, said: “I am so proud of all the work that goes into our Your Community, Your Fund projects, the principles of this scheme bring intense value to communities and are of great benefit to our railways.
“It will be a pleasure to work with the project leaders and witness the progress of each project and their impact on different West Midlands areas and community groups over the coming months.”
