Three options for the redevelopment of station were unveiled at the event featuring the platform one’s station building which was sadly destroyed in a fire in July 2021.

The first option sees the reinstatement of the old building using modern materials to achieve a like-for-like structure.

The second option revealed the reinstatement of the old building but also saw some changes such as the size of the building alongside provision for access and egress.

The third option sees a modern take on the old building. Each of the three options will see the interior with a modern layout which will bring a space for customers and staff which is fit for purpose.

The community drop-in event saw Troon locals given the first opportunity to review the different concepts and was well attended, with plenty of positive discussion and feedback regarding the three concepts. The event also saw locals given the chance to question the project team about the designs and also regarding construction and the potential timeline for the project.

The feedback gathered from the local community at the event will be reviewed and will direct a more comprehensive design using just one of the options. Once completed, a proposal will be shared with the local Troon community before being submitted for planning approval alongside listed building’s consent which will be required in order to carry out the project and is anticipated to be received during November.

It is hoped that the project will see the construction of the station building complete in time for The Open Golf tournament which will take place in Troon in July 2024.

Jo Noble, Network Rail’s sponsor for the redevelopment project said:

“The level of interest in the redevelopment of the station was phenomenal. We are grateful that the people of Troon took the time to come and see what we are proposing and to share their views with us.

“We are keen to get feedback, not only on the aesthetics of the designs but also on how people would like to see the internal space utilised to meet the needs of the station users and the wider community.

“We had some great comments, questions and suggestions and we look forward to receiving more feedback on our proposals in the coming weeks.”

  1. I’m not keen on the new design behind built at Troon, I’d rather see a building reminiscent of the old. The design for a new station is still good but build it at another station which need redevelopment.
