Steam locomotive 35018 British India Line to visit Carlisle this Saturday

35018 British India Line will be back in steam on the mainline and will be in Carlisle and Blackburn on Saturday 6th August 2022.

The locomotive is hauling the Cumbrian Mountain Express on Saturday.

The railtour departs London Euston behind an electric locomotive at approximately 07:08 am.

The railtour will then head for Carlisle, where it will make stops at Central (07:43), Rugby (08:25), Nuneaton (08:42), Crewe (09:31) and Preston (10:14) before arriving at North Junction at 10:42.

Here, the 35018 British India Line will be added to the front of the train which will depart with the locomotive at 11:26, steaming through (11:41) and Penrith (12:20), it will go non-stop to Carlisle, where it will arrive at 12:42.

After around an hour in Carlisle, the steam locomotive will depart Carlisle at 14:22 bound for London Euston. It will pass through Lazonby & Kirkoswald (14:45) and will stop for water at Appleby (15:05).

Continuing down the Settle and Carlisle line, the locomotive will pass over the Ribblehead Viaduct at approx 15:55, continuing to Settle, passing through Settle Junction (16:06) where it heads for , for a water stop, at 16:14.

From here, the steam train will pass through (17:01) and Blackburn (17:26) before arriving at Preston at 17:54.

At Preston, the steam locomotive is taken off the train, and an electric locomotive will take the same path back to London Euston, calling at Crewe (19:29), Nuneaton (20:27), Rugby (20:49), Milton Keynes Central (21:20) and Watford Junction at 22:03.

The railtour will arrive back at its final destination of London Euston at 22:29.

  1. My favourite loco from 1956 when spotting at Clapham Junction…nicknamed him Bill of course. The first to be restyled I think and his rescue and returning to work….eventually…even at my advance age was a delight. I want to see the old boy again before I croak so where is he shedded now please ?
