Deltic 55009 ‘Alycidon’ will be a star attraction at the heritage railways event which will take place from 29th September to the 2nd of October
The stunning locomotive will be in BR Blue Livery and the Autumn Diesel Bash will mark the first time that D9009 has appeared on the Severn Valley Railway in the colour scheme and is appearing over the four days courtesy of the Deltic Preservation Society.
55009 was first introduced to mainline traffic back in 1961 and is now one of just six Deltics in preservation.
Severn Valley Railway will also be using a number of their home fleet during the event such as Class 50s, Class 52s, Class 40, Class 14 ‘Teddy Bear’, Class 17 Clayton and Class 20 No 20048 which is currently residing at the railway.
The heritage railways Class 42 Greyhound will be running in blue livery with yellow ends after undergoing a considerable bodywork overhaul.
Class 31 31466 was a guest at Severn Valley Railways 2021 Autumn Diesel Gala and has stopped at the railway since and will feature in the railways September and October loco roster.
Severn Valley Railway is hoping to reveal more guests over the next few weeks for what is set to be a fantastic event and their last diesel event of the year.
Gus Dunster, Deputy Chairman of Severn Valley Railway (Holdings) Plc, said: “We’re thrilled that the Deltic Preservation Society have allowed 55009 to visit the SVR and I know it’ll be a big draw for passengers attending the event.
“We were disappointed that the locomotive missed out on our Spring event but are really excited for it to visit for our Autumn Diesel Bash!”
55009 Is also going to host diesel footplate experiences ahead of the Autumn Diesel Bash, a good number of places for which have already sold out.
Gus added: “We’re honoured that the locomotive is scheduled for diesel footplate experiences during its visit too, allowing people to feel the power of a Deltic first-hand! Places for this unique experience are already selling fast, so I’d encourage people wanting to ride in the cab of 55009 to book their experience as soon as possible!”
