Across railway stations in South Yorkshire, Train operator Northern is set to install 36 new defibrillators, meaning that all stations in the area will now have one.

Northern has been able to install the life saving equipment thanks to funding from South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority (SYMCA).

The defibrillators are planned to be installed by the end of September, and will be available for use by the local community.

Step by step, spoken instructions are built in to each defibrillator to take someone through how to use it on someone in case of emergency.

The computers inside the machines do most of the work, reading a persons heart rate and delivers a shock only if required.

After installation, the defibrillators will be added to the national register and training will be offered to staff and members of the local community by North West Ambulance Service.

The locations of new defibrillators are:

Bentley
Barnsley

Tony Baxter, regional director at Northern said: “All our defibrillators are in public places, and they are of huge benefit, not only to those travelling with us, but also the communities we serve. Our aim is to make a positive impact for the North, and we will continue to work hard to introduce life-saving defibrillators at even more of our stations. I would like to thank SYMCA for their help in making this happen.”

  1. Delighted to hear a rail operator keen to realise the value of this life saving kit. From someone who has had a minor heart attack I more than most appreciate their value. In June 2021 your site announced that Transport for Wales were installing defibs at all their 222 stations. 12 months on and they have proudly announced in their Adopter’s News Letter that 17 stations now have them. Delays in using them can be fatlal, delays in installing criminal.
