The rail operator’s advice comes due to engineering work which will be taking place between and / on Saturday the 10th of September.

Despite rail replacement buses operating they can only offer an extremely limited service and there will not be enough buses to support the anticipated number of football fans.

The essential work which is taking place over the weekend of the 10th of September will see replace the points along with Track renewal to be carried out at Chippenham junction where the single line from Cambridge joins the line from Ely, and comes as part of the Cambridge Re-signalling project. The work means that trains no trains are able to operate on that part of the network.

James Steward, Greater Anglia’s Area Customer Service Manager, said:

“We are urging football fans to make other travel arrangements on September 10. We are running an extremely limited rail replacement bus service and people who turn up risk being left behind.

“We have previously been able to support football matches and other large-scale local events, but on this occasion, we are very sorry, but it’s not possible.

“Engineering works are planned several months and sometimes even years in advance, and these works can’t be moved. We are sorry for the inconvenience caused.”
