Carers Plus Yorkshire and the North Yorkshire Moors Railway (NYMR) have collaborated for the Festival of Green this summer.
Earlier this month (July) as part of the festivals programme of events, North Yorkshire Moors Railway organised walks from Fen Bog to Goathland Summit called ‘Waving At Trains’. Additionally, they have organised a special ‘Slow Train’ return service from Pickering to Grosmont for small groups, with time to explore or have a picnic at the turnaround.
Carers Plus Yorkshire, who organised the festival, promotes green social events across the Ryedale area.
The North Yorkshire Moors Railway’s work within the community has a focus on the advancement of citizenship and wellbeing for all ages and background via highlighting volunteering, learning and training opportunities.
Kathryn Dunn, Community Engagement Adviser at Carers Plus Yorkshire, said: “I enjoyed a wonderful day on the slow train and feel so lucky to have this amazing enterprise on our doorstep, after speaking to other Festival clients on the train, the overall feeling was that it was an extremely relaxing and mindful day. Thank you for taking part in the Festival of Green!”
Michelle Baggaley, Community Engagement Manager at North Yorkshire Moors Railway, said: “We were happy to support Carers Plus when they reached out. Ryedale residents who have already experienced the ‘Slow Train’ thoroughly enjoyed the day. As we move more into community engagement, our involvement to help support initiatives such as these will enable the NYMR to reach wider into our local communities and allow people to engage with our railway who may not have access otherwise.”
