On Friday 22nd July, Network Rail unveiled the improved facilities available to passengers at Market Harborough station.
The improvements included a new toilet block and waiting room.
The brand new toilet block has five cubicles along with an accessible toilet and baby changing facilities for customers to use. The waiting room contains nine comfortable seats for passengers to use while waiting for trains. There has also been a water fountain installed in the waiting room.
The station upgrades faced some struggles along the way with the contractor and some design alterations to find the best way to upgrade the facilities as well as pandemic challenges.
In recent years the station has undergone multiple upgrades such as track improvements to allow for the trains travelling through to do so at a higher speed, a brand new accessible footbridge to open the station to more customers. There has also been 200 extra car parking spaces added for ease of travelling.
Gary Walsh, East Midlands Route Director for Network Rail said: “This day has been eagerly awaited by passengers who use Market Harborough station and I want to thank them for their patience. I’m delighted to see that the new facilities are now open.
“We’re committed to delivering better journeys, stations and experiences for our passengers. This work brings together the package of improvements we’ve implemented at Market Harborough in recent years to truly transform train travel in the town.”
Neil O’Brien, MP for Harborough, Oadby and Wigston said: “This is very welcome news for people who use the station at Market Harborough. Over recent months I’ve been in regular correspondence with Network Rail and EMR on a range of station and train matters, as I’m always keen to see improvements to our stations and trains wherever possible.
“To have this following on from the other improvement works we’ve seen at the station and the ongoing work to electrify the midland mainline, is very welcome news for many constituents who are regular users of the service.”
