With the sun (hopefully) shining and summer holidays taking centre stage in most people’s minds, Severn Valley Railway is thinking ahead of the festive family fun to be had onboard their well-loved Santa services and will be opening for bookings from Wednesday the 6th of July.
The special services will see passengers join at Kidderminster Town station and will be treated to a delightful winter wonderland display of Christmas trees, singing reindeer and Santa’s sleigh which make for fantastic family photos. Complimentary cold drinks for children and hot drinks in a special travel mug will be provided for adults alongside a sweet treat for everyone.
Following the festive frivolities comes a vintage steam train journey with reserved compartments or tables to Arley station where passengers disembark to enjoy a magically decorated marquee and a pantomime performance, which sees Father Christmas along with Jingle and Jangle, a pair of mischievous elves. This year will also see a brand new character join the cast with an all-new show with plenty of laughs, thrills and spills.
After the panto, passengers can get back on the train where each child will find a present with their name on it and containing a premium gift.
Taking around two and a half hours, the journey and pantomime are guaranteed to get the whole family into the festive spirit whilst creating wonderful family memories on the way.
“We’re delighted to be able to open up sales for our Santa services this far ahead,” said Michael Dunn, the SVR’s head of visitor experience. “We know that many people want to make sure they get their seats booked, and we’ve already been taking plenty of enquiries from parents and grandparents, determined not to miss out. For thousands of families, Christmas just wouldn’t be complete without a journey on the Severn Valley Railway!”
Severn Valley Railway’s Santa services will start on the 26th of November and will run on selected dates through to the 24th of December.
Online booking can be made from 11am on Tuesday the 6th of July at their website http://svr.co.uk

Why don’t they put the Santa trains for Christmas 2023 on sale while they are about it?
The 6th July is a Wednesday!
Well spotted 🙂
