The has launched a new fundraising campaign for 777 Sir Lamiel’s Petticoat, which needs replacing.

Good progress has been made on the overhaul of 777, with the expected completion set to be sometime in 2023.

Every ten years, locomotives need an overhaul, or a strip down, to check that all parts are safe to continue working for the next ten years, and some parts require repair or replacement.

The petticoat is found in 777’s smokebox and helps with the locomotive’s steaming, and this has been used for a number of decades but now requires replacement.

This piece of the smokebox is subjected to hot gases, steam and ash when the locomotive is in service.

Therefore, the 5305 Locomotive Association has launched a £2,000 fundraiser to allow the sole surviving King Arthur to return to service quicker.
