East Midlands Railway has confirmed that its Summer Special services will return starting on Saturday the 23rd of July and will begin at this year instead of Nottingham

will be operating the services using its trains which provide passengers with more luggage space as they make their way to the popular seaside town.

Class 180 trains are usually found running on East Midlands Railway’s Intercity services to and from London St. Pancras International and feature larger luggage space than the trains which usually operate Poacher Line services.

East Midlands Railway is also organising some special treats for families travelling on the route during the summer season.

The Class 180 services will operate each Saturday from the 23rd of July and run through to the 10th of September as follows:

  • 07.58 Derby to
  • 09.23 Derby to Skegness
  • 11.42 Skegness to Derby
  • 13.44 Skegness to Derby

Four Class 156 train services were reintroduced on the 15th of May by East Midlands Railway after being removed due to low demand through winter last year.

Returning services to and from Skegness are as follows:

  • 08.46 Nottingham to Skegness
  • 11.14 Skegness to Nottingham
  • 13.46 Nottingham to Skegness
  • 16.14 Skegness to Nottingham

Neil Grabham, Customer Services Director for East Midlands Railway, said: “Skegness remains a popular destination for families and day-trippers who want some fun at the seaside.

“The Class 180 Intercity style trains will offer customers more luggage room, while the increase of the summer services will also provide people more options of when to travel.

“Customers should also keep an eye out for some special treats we have organised for families travelling on this route this summer.”
