The man’s life-saving actions saw him come to the aid of a customer at Southport station who had attempted to take their own life.
Vinnie O’Brien is 55 and works for Northern as a train presentation operative and stepped into the situation administering first aid until paramedics arrived, saving the life of the customer.
Vinnie has now been shortlisted for the Outstanding Personal Contribution category at the esteemed National Rail Awards which intend to recognise exceptional achievements throughout Great Britain, rewarding both individuals and initiatives which denote innovation, measurable improvements and remarkable leadership.
Jack Commandeur, engineering director at Northern, said:
“Vinnie is a credit to Northern and a life-saver in every sense of the word. His ability to remain calm under pressure and deal with the situation until paramedics arrived undoubtedly saved this customer’s life.”
Vinnie will discover if he is the winner of his category at the awards ceremony which will be held in London on Thursday the 15th of September.
Northern operates almost 2,000 services each day to over 500 stations throughout the North of England and is the second largest rail operator in the country.
