Scotrail urges passengers heading to the Ed Sheeran concert at Hampden Park to plan their journeys ahead and to be aware of their travel options.

The concert will be taking place at Hampden Park on Thursday the 16th and Friday the 17th of June with ScotRail advising fans to arrive early at the stadium, leaving plenty of time for their journey and also to plan their travel options when heading home.

Hampden Park will be open from 4pm with the concert set to begin at 6pm which provides fans with a great chance to get to the venue early as trains are anticipated to be extremely busy.

Commuters who use and services regularly also need to be aware that services will be a lot busier than usual due to people making their way to the concert.

To support people heading to the gig, Scotrail will be providing extra carriages to as many trains as possible from to Mount Florida and , which are the closest stations to the venue. The extra carriages will come into action from midday right up until Ed Sheeran is due to be on stage.

ScotRail is also advising customers to check their travel plans, especially following the event as no trains will depart Mount Florida back to Glasgow Central once it is finished, which is due to a temporary timetable being operated at the moment.

A very limited number of trains will operate out of Glasgow city centre after 11pm and are as follows:

  • 23:17 Glasgow Central to
  • 23:22 Glasgow Central to Stirling
  • 23:30 Glasgow Central to Ayr
  • 23:45 Glasgow Queen Street to Edinburgh Waverley

Glasgow central will see queuing systems put in place ahead of the concert and will cut the need to queue on the day. Customers are also advised to purchase their ticket to Mount Florida or Kings Park ahead using the mTicket system, which is available on the ScotRail app.

Purchasing tickets using the mTickets system will allow people to buy their tickets at home or on the way to the station and with the purchased tickets available immediately on their mobile device.

Extra staff will also be on hand to help customers and ScotRail also wants to remind those travelling that carrying and consuming alcohol is prohibited on their services.

Phil Campbell, ScotRail Head of Customer Operations, said:

“We’ll be doing all we can to help customers get to the Ed Sheeran concerts at Hampden.

“We’re adding extra carriages to as many trains as we can; however, our services are expected to be very busy, so we’d encourage people to travel early if they can.

“Customers should be aware that there will be no trains from Mount Florida after the event finishes, so we urge everyone to plan ahead, check their journey, and consider their travel options.

“Queuing systems will be in place at Glasgow Central before event so please make sure you know where to go. ScotRail staff will be there to help and on hand to direct you.”
