Train operator, London North Eastern Railway, has unveiled a new livery for its Intercity 225 fleet.
Giving a nod to the past, the new livery features LNER’s colours and logo.
Work on the first set (91127 and NL17) has been completed at Wabtec’s Doncaster Works.
The new livery is part of the 225’s programme of essential work.
The entire fleet of LNER Intercity 225’s (12 Class 91s and 8 sets of coaches) will receive the new livery in the coming months as and when they come in for the programme of work to be carried out.
91110 ‘Battle of Britain Memorial Flight’, 91111 ‘For The Fallen’ and 91119 will retain their special liveries as part of the programme.
John Doughty, Director of Engineering at LNER, said: “The new livery is not only essential for the upkeep of the fleet but also brings it into the LNER family. It is the first time in many years that the fleet has been fully repainted. The livery was inspired in part by the popularity of the original InterCity 225 design, and we’ve kept the sharp lines and red and white stripes famously associated with the trains which have a place in the hearts of many people.”

I suppose that LNER does not want to get rid of the Class 91 Mk4 stocks.
Amazing the old swallow intercity livery. I said weeks ago itd be nice to see some liveries come back as a nod to the days of BR and if rumours are true tgat GBR is gonna happen kudos LNER. Youve made alot of us train enthusiasts happy.
Why has it taken 5+years when from memory this was a private proposal to LNER in 2017. I believe when it can be seen on the daily timetables it will look extremely impressive. Well done.
How long have the Class 91s got left in service?
Wow, it’s as if Swallows Fly Again, as this Latest LNER Livery suitably resembles that of the ex-British Rail Swallow Livery that the InterCity 225s Previously Wore (thus Bore) from when they first took to the Rails of the East Coast Mainline in the 1980s.
Much better! It suits the lines and proportions of the 91s and looks classy!
Kudos! It’s 1988 again – if this is the way forward on GBR, bring it on.
Soyou can travel back intime
